Bright October?

A period of rather unsettled weather will affect Ireland over the next 7 days as a typical Autumnal westerly, atlantic dominated regime takes control across North-Westen Europe. After a terribly sodden summer some expected Autumn to be more benign but the latest indications suggest that the weather will continue in this disappointing manner throughout October.

The Atlantic dominated regime will continue for the coming 2 weeks with heavy rain at times but it should be relatively mild throughout. This evenings (Saturday) rain will become very heavy across the south and as another batch of extemely heavy, torrential rain moves into the region towards late Monday/ Early Tuesday, concerns with regard to flooding will be raised.

Our Promise

WeatherCheck is back in action and ready for another active Autumn/ Winter season where we will try to provide an accurate yet somewhat experimental forecast for Ireland.

We will try to provide something more than the conservative approach from many weather organisations yet provide crucial accurate data for the immediate future.

At the moment WeatherCheck expects the Autumn to be extremely unsettled come late October but early indications would suggest that this Winter will be much colder than last.

Have a good weekend.

First the torrential rain then the 50-60mph winds due Sunday.

A really fierce Summer Storm is expected to cross Ireland on the summer solstice weekend brining at first torrential rain and flooding and then gale force westerly winds that will batter the country through Sunday (June 22nd).

Right now the storm is brewing to our south and intensifying, at the moment it is a classic Autumn storm system undergoing cyclogenesis  (rapid deepening).

The torrential rain will push north through Saturday morning to affect all areas of Ireland, eastern parts of the country including Dublin are likely to see the heaviest of the rain through the day with accumulations of upto 40mm of rain expected. As a result flash floods are likely across the country and more especially in Leinster.

The wind

It will be mostly calm during Saturday with the low sitting across the country, winds will be variable. However as we move into the early hours of Sunday the center of the Summer Storm will push north as it intensifies, the pressure gradient will tighten and west and northwesterly gales will begin to be experienced.

Wind gusts are expected to be highest across the north-midlands, coastal Connacht, North Leinster, Ulster and especially in the north Irish sea where Storm force 10 winds are possible for a time.

Gusts will reach 50-55mph inland and upto 65mph along coastal counties of the west and out to sea in the Irish sea.  These type of wind gusts in winter would be notable but not damaging however as trees are now in full leaf, damage is likely as a result of fallen trees.

Take care and keep up to date with your local forecasts.

The short answer is no!

Temperatures soared today as a very warm humid airmass crossed the country with its associated High pressure system. Local reports indicated that temperatures touched 25c in parts of Dublin while official readings for Dublin airport read 23c at 3pm. A few showers were expected to spark off during the day but failed to do so.

It’s just a short note today as the weather outlook has became much more certain over recent days, the cool-down to the weather in Ireland is still on course. Tuesday will remain warm and sunny but showery outbreaks of rain in association with a cold front will spread south on Wednesday marking the breakdown to much cooler weather.

Cool Down

From Thursday it will be cool, breezy but with good spells of sunshine. There will be a few showers especially in the midlands through the afternoon and evenings. Southern and Eastern areas look favoured for the highest amount of sunshine and although it will be cool with temperatures of just 12-15c it will be pleasent.

Euro 2008 weather update

Meanwhile over in Switzerland and Austria there will be a continuation of cooler and wetter weather than the June average but it is hoped that as we move towards the knock-out stages the weather may improve as high pressure rises over central Europe.

Enjoy your week.

Scorching start

Not much to add today, the weather this Sunday was actually quite nice with the sun slowly eating that cloud as the evening approached. The cloud will continue to clear during the night as high pressure settles across the country and warm upper level air pushes north.

Monday looks like being a belter of a day with clear blue skies and temperatures approaching 25c. Some convective cloud will bubble up in the midlands and east during the day with perhaps a few sharp showers. Some cloud will move into the Northern coast towards nightfall as the weather tries to change pattern.

During Tuesday the weather will remain fine across southern Ireland but cooler weather with cloud and drizzle will move into the north as winds begin to veer northerly. Temperatures will reach upto 23c in the south but much cooler towards Derry and the north coast.

Turning cold but staying sunny.

During Wednesday a active band of showery rain will push south with some thundery activity, it will turn noticeably cooler with maxima of just 15 or 16c.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be very cool for June with moderate northerly breezes coming right down from the Arctic. It will however remain quite pleasent with lots of sunshine and just fair weather cloud, showers will build during the day with some heavy or thundery showers possible towards evening. Temperatures will just range from 10-14c despite the sunshine and it will turn noticeable colder in showers with temperatures falling into single figures.

Nontheless the weather outlook remains good with lots of sunny weather expected but turning cooler, Monday and Tuesday look great for most.

Enjoy and have a good week.

Hazy Sunday
Well what a stunning day that was, glorious clear blue skies, a light breeze and temperatures touching 20c. Well tomorrow (Sunday, June 9th) looks less pleasent with a fragmenting weather front crossing the country. The front will bring little if any rain just perhaps some drizzle or light rain to the west coast.

It will however mean a cloudy day for most with the sun trying its best to break through as the day progresses. It will though feel much warmer and humid as a warm airmass feeds north as high pressure settles across Ireland and the UK. Temperatures will reach 20c widely and in the sunnier spots it could reach 24c.

Good Start

As we start the new week the weather will reach its peak with Monday being a glorious, warm and sunny day with temperatures reaching as high as 26c in places. Winds will be very light from the west meaning the highest temperatures are likely to occur in the east midlands (Kildare, Meath, Wicklow, west Dublin).

Tuesday will be similar to Monday with temperatures perhaps 1 or 2 celcius less, but it will remain sunny with light or calm winds.

Change

It’s as we move towards Wednesday when we will see a change to much cooler weather as High pressure moves north and west allowing a cool Northerly airstream set in. A synoptic we would have died for during the winter months! Showery rain will spread south during Wednesday with some heavy thundery downpours.

From Wednesday onwards it will be cool with a light northerly airstream, however it is still likely to be very pleasent with lots of cool sunshine with showers building by day. Nights will be cool with some ground frost possible. It will though feel warm in the sunshine by day, temperatures will peak between 12 and 15c.

Overall not a bad week ahead with some interesting weather synoptics and the potential for some nice heavy thundery showers as the week progresses.

Enjoy the rest of your Weekend.

The thundery showers that are present in the midlands and east will clear this evening to leave a cool, calm and dry night. A ridge of high pressure will be present during Saturday and lead to a predominately dry, sunny day for most.

It will be a mild day but not warm with temperatures between 15-19c, cloudy weather and rain will reach the west coast towards nightfall with light rain pushing east after a pleasent sunny day.

Looking further ahead, Sunday looks like it will be a dank, drizzly day for most as the rain front dies across the country however cloud will begin to break up as the day progresses and it could turn into a fine day for some western spots.

Monday and Tuesday of next week (9-10th June) look set to be scorchers with high pressure settling across the country with a warm airmass aloft, temperatures could soar to 26c on Monday and upto 23c on Tuesday. Some convective outbursts will occur towards Monday evening but it is likely to stay dry everywhere with hot sunshine.

Enjoy your weekend, hopefully Sunday’s weather picture will improve, if it does we’ll be spoilt with another cracking weekend.

Two major patterns threaten to take control of the weather across Ireland and the UK over the coming weeks. It remains very uncertain which. The Azores high will strengthen over the Biscay and push up across Ireland over the upcoming weekend, giving fine weather as we move towards Monday June 9th.

However when we reach Tuesday June 10th uncertainty on the pattern that will take over is high, the high pressure cell will either 1) push north and settle over southern Ireland and northwestern Europe bringing very pleasent, sunny warm weather to the country OR the high will fail to built enough and a low pressure cell will undercut it bringing a cool, cloudy northwesterly aistream across Ireland and the UK.

I will update you tomorrow with the latest on the situation which is proving very difficult to ascertain as little as 5 days before it happens.

As for today, yesterdays murky, gloomy weather which affected much of the east and midlands will slowly push away eastwards to give a pleasent, mild and fair day with temperatures touching 20c in some lucky spots.

Enjoy your Friday, and have a good weekend.

Yes you heard it here..

An exceptional shot of cold air is expected to push across Ireland over this weekend (6-8th April) bringing really  low temperatures with maxima on Sunday and Monday expected to be between 3-8c countrywide, which for April is extremely cold, the average maxima for April is 13c.

It all kicks off on Saturday as a weak cold front moves across the country introducing the cold air from the north, a huge block will then form stretching from Greenland to  Northern Norway and south into the Irish sea, the clockwise motion of the air will send arctic air flooding across the country.

Saturday night and during Sunday look particularly likely times to see snowfall to low-levels across the country, just about anywhere could see the snow but the east, west and north are in the firing line. Convection will burst out over land during Sunday also with the possibility of big beefy thunder snowstorms possible!

Lying snow is likely to be temporary however but it will ly and stay overnight Sunday as temperature plummet to near record lows, mimima of -5c are likely which is really exceptional.

Anyway enjoy tomorrow as that 17c, warm, sunny tshirt weather will be a distant memory as winter bites back on Sunday.

Well here i am trying to make the site more practical and usable, i am converting the site into a blog type set up so i can update it more frequently and provide you with more information, this way i will be able to just log on anywhere in the world and share my thoughts about the weather at ease.
